Plant holds two sheets of paper.
"I've never met the landlords before…" they say. "We get billed for rent, of course, but never by the same company"
A few unopened letters are scattered across the counter.
"These last two weeks—I swear to God, we've been billed three times by three different people. Three letterheads, three prices…"
Plant stands, looking at a document taped the door outside their apartment.
"I remember one day, one of them left an eviction notice on the door. They filled out the space detailing their reason for eviction with an illustration of a city bench."
They sit alone on a well-graffitied bench next to a bush and poll topped by a little sign. Someone reaches down to touch their hand, but when Plant reaches out, they find that nobody's there. Finding themself standing alone, they say:
"One day as I was leaving, I saw the notice had been removed. I never paid the bills, anyway. I don't even have a bank account."
